Musselburgh: Bid to bring Airstream

A bid has been launched to install a retro style snack van within the courtyard of Eskmills.

Eskmills is a fully serviced office letting space which houses a variety of businesses.

The proposal would see the installation an Airstream trailer that would serve a range or artisan food and drink.

Exact food offerings have not been confirmed but a selection of pastries and artisan breads are planned along with "bean to cup" coffee.

The service is hoped to "improve the well being for building occupants" but would also be available for the general public.

The design statement added: "As a space fully accessible to the public it is also an opportunity to provide resources for the local community and visitors to the site."

The decision to employ a refurbished Airstream trailer was also a careful design choice that would complement the buildings and feel of the location.

Airstream is an American brand of travel trailer easily recognised by the distinctive shape of its rounded and polished aluminum finish.

The statement added: "The materials in particular drove the choice of ‘Airstream’ rather than alternative types of artisan van.

"The highly polished metal surfaces acts like a camouflage – reflecting the buildings that surround it and reducing its visual impact.

"It's perceived appearance also changing at different times of day or year."

A decision deadline has been set for July 29.
